Licence plates from across Canada and the USA adorned the quirky convoy as approximately 150 vintage trailers rolled in for the rally, Eggfest Ontario 2025.
“If you happened to be driving past Rideau Acres Campground the weekend of May 23-25, you might have thought you’d entered a time warp; Welcome to Eggfest 2025, where vintage trailers still rule the road.”
You might have asked, “What did these trailers, built by various manufacturers, have in common?” The answer is their unmistakable egg-shaped design when viewed from the side. These trailers resembled a hard-boiled breakfast egg on wheels, and the owners took pride in it. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to camp in a trailer that looked like a relic of the ‘60s and ’70s? Well, I had the chance to mix and mingle with these eggheads.

Caren Scott, a visitor from the USA, opened her Scamp Egg for viewing.
The Open House Extravaganza
On a Saturday in May, from 10 AM to 3 PM, these charming little homes-on-wheels flung open their doors to curious visitors. It was an opportunity to step inside and marvel at the creativity of trailer owners who had transformed these shells into cozy, quirky, and sometimes downright eccentric living spaces.
Question My Own Cluttered Lifestyles
As a visitor, I encountered retro décor eggs screaming disco fever with minimalist designs that made me question my cluttered lifestyle, and themed trailers that defied logic. Pirate ships, space pods, and one that made me feel like I would be camping inside a giant avocado.
Add three bonfires, torrential yet warm rain (and then more rain), turning the camping fields into squelchy mud, and a pond for ducks. Courtesy of the park, the park hall was used for an indoor jam session. Card tables and racks for raincoats provided campers with a chance to dry out during the Friday and Saturday jam sessions. This turned into a classic spring camping trip in Ontario.

Leslie, With Her Refurbished 1980 Trillium
I met Leslie with her refurbished 1980 Trillium, who, despite the mud, proudly showed me the inside, past her proudly displayed British Union Jack flag. A repurposed flag, used as a door window covering. Leslie directed me to Brenda Ibey’s vintage Airstream Egg. “Brenda organized this year’s Eggfest,” Leslie told me.
I had to pass the more colourful eggs, impromptu duck ponds, and mud pits, which would have made elephants proud.
So off I paddled with my wife, Linda, my daughter, and two granddaughters, all ‘Oohing!’ and ‘Aahing!’ as we peeked inside this fantastic collection of vintage RVs. With the distinct scent of fresh-cut wood, old vinyl, and campfire smoke in the air, we felt transported back in time

A little bit of rain didn’t dampen the spirits.
A Day of Nostalgia, Inspiration, and Uncontrollable Laughter
Visitors in raincoats and sporting umbrellas, with green rubber boots on their feet or flip-flops and T-shirts, could be heard fantasizing about owning their vintage trailer and the adventures they could have.
There was a small toll to get into the park if you weren’t camping, but hey, in exchange for a day of nostalgia, inspiration, and uncontrollable laughter, it was worth it. Meeting people who camp in eggs made the visitors question their own lifestyle choices.
Armed with curiosity and cameras, guests immersed themselves in the vintage vibes and camping humour. By the end, many left with a newfound appreciation for trailer life and a burning desire to join the club. More than a few were seen later Googling “how to buy a vintage trailer.”
Would you dare to own a 1970s disco-themed camper? What about one designed to look like a pirate ship? Eggfest was a gallery of vintage dreams that came to life.

Advice from the Eggfest Ontario 2025 Club President
For those contemplating the leap into vintage trailer ownership, Eggfest’s club President, Brenda Ibey, had some sage advice:
“Refurbishing a vintage trailer is like adopting a very needy pet. It’s rewarding, but it will test your patience, your wallet, and your ability to Google ‘How to fix a…’ more times than you ever imagined. But trust me, once you’re sitting in your avocado-shaped trailer at a rally, surrounded by fellow enthusiasts, you’ll know it was worth every penny and every splinter. Welcome to the club!”
