NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR
Explorer RV Club Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter
On August 10th 2024 our Labrador Caravan began with 10 couples at Woolfrey s Pond Park in Lewisport. The next stop was Gateway to the North Park in Deer Lake for two nights and then it was north to St. Barbe for two nights before taking the ferry to the Labrador Coast. The group then spent five days exploring the southern Labrador coast staying at parks in Lance au Claire and Port Hope Simpson. A highlight of the caravan was a day-trip by boat to Battle Harbour which was once one of the main centres of the fishery in Labrador. Since being resettled there has been considerable restoration and it is now a National Historic District and one of the main tourist attractions in southern Labrador. The final stop was back on the island at Gros Morne RV Park in Rocky Harbour where the group took in some of the local entertainment. A good trip was enjoyed by everyone.
On September 6-8, 2024 we held our fall rally at the Shriner s RV Park in Eastport with 13 couples in attendance. As this was our 25th anniversary year we had a celebration on Friday evening with Vi Parsons (one of our founding members) reminiscing about many of the rallies and meetings we have had over the years. We had an anniversary cake which was cut by our founding members Vi and Dave Parsons and Maxine and Lloyd Currie. Also in attendance was another founding couple and former ambassadors Doreen and Jerry Noseworthy. The remainder of the rally took its usual form with lots of music, our Saturday games, our annual auction and a lovely catered turkey dinner on Saturday evening. Once again we were able to make a donation to the Shriner s Transportation Fund to help sick children get the medical attention they need. All in all another great summer!
Our next event will be our luncheon and annual meeting in May 2025.
