General Coach Canada has been in the trailer building business since 1950. They started building the “Beaver,” a 16-ft travel trailer, in their factory near Hensall, Ontario. According to their website, the company has taken on modular home construction, movie trailer construction and a variety of related lines – not all at the same time, or even lately. The company shuttered in the Great Recession of 2008, but it has since been resurrected, and now, a very old, venerable trailer name has been brought back to production – the Citation Reward.

While the Citation Reward looks very recognizable, it’s not the trailer of old. Today, the Reward trailers utilize different construction. Among the key aspects are completely redesigned walls, built with a one-piece seamless fibreglass that is a vacuum-bonded two-inch construction produced by a supplier in Quebec. The roof is a multi-piece vaulted configuration. This, along with other design elements, achieves the aerodynamic shape of the Citation Reward, built on an aluminum cage structure. There are no materials that will decay or require maintenance in this build.

Today, General Coach is one of Canada’s leading manufacturers of park model trailers. As such, they build a wide range of interior cabinetry and design fixtures on-site, which can also be used to construct these trailers. This fact probably accounts for the more residential look of the Citation Reward trailers. Each cabinet features Grass-soft close hinges, and the drawers have Grass-soft close glides. Cabinet doors and drawers all use Whisper Latch cam locks. These types of components (and the finishes of doors, cabinets, and woodwork) speak to the mission that General Coach has chosen for the Citation Reward – it is of elegant quality. So, don’t be surprised by the price because this mission has an appropriate price tag.

The Citation Reward Floorplan

Available in three different floorplans – ranging in length from 25 to 31 feet- each has an interesting feature: a queen bed or interchangeable singles available in each floorplan. With the ability to sleep up to four – a small family would consider this trailer – however, with the twin singles, it seems there is a nod to couples – typically older couples (sorry kids, we kind of like to sleep alone as we age) appears to be the builder intent. These three trailers also land nicely in the half-ton/full-size SUV tow range. As for electricity – the company website goes on to cover the possibility of towing with an EV, as this, too, is a new reality.

“As more consumers switch to EVs, there will be a growing demand for lightweight, aerodynamic travel trailers. The Reward trailer’s aerodynamic design and low ground clearance will allow owners to maximize their electric vehicles’ efficiency, range and environmental benefits,” they say.

Energy needs, too, are covered with built-in solar options that encourage off-grid camping.

A 200W-12V solar package is standard. It comes with a monitor and feeds a 12V Lithium battery. A 55AMP power converter is included. As for shore power, it’s equipped with a 30AMP twist-lock power cord. For propane, there is a 30-lb tank, which can feed the very small and efficient Truma combi water heater/furnace.

Below are the bullet point highlights of the build features.

In general, I see a very traditional trailer in this 28-foot layout—it looks exactly as you’d expect before setting foot in it. However, the difference is in the details, which require a bit more time to soak in. Have a look and spend the time needed to come away with an in-depth impression.
