Prolite Trailers: Eco Line Travel Trailer

Prolite is a Canadian manufacturer of ultralight trailers. Built in St-Jérôme, Quebec, these lightweight trailers have been on the market for close to 25 years. This year, Prolite introduced a new set of trailers called the Eco Line. In keeping with its established build practices, the new Eco Line offers durable, eco-friendly RVs that meet today’s road and climate needs. So, when Prolite says it builds lightweight trailers, it means it, with several models varying in dry weight from 630 lb. to 2,980 lb. These Prolite trailers are also aerodynamic, thanks to their contoured front and rear shape. The aerodynamics of Prolite ultralight trailers are an advantage in terms of fuel economy.

The three new Eco Line models can accommodate two to six people. In addition, Prolite trailers can be towed by vehicles with a wide range of towing capacities. The advantage is that these trailers will likely match the vehicle you already own.

All these trailers have a monocoque roof covered in fibreglass, a product recognized for its durability and increased resistance to impacts, scratches and UV rays. Prolite’s build components consist of walls insulated with DuroFoam panels, a closed-cell expanded polystyrene insulation that provides long-lasting thermal resistance and helps prevent water infiltration. In the event of water infiltration, DuroFoam will expel it directly from the source; this will be visible quickly and can be neutralized quickly. Without it, water infiltration can usually take months or even years to discover. The flooring uses poplar wood covered with Tekmodo composite panels that provide additional protection when travelling on the road and during extended stops in high-humidity locations.

Prolite emphasizes that it uses nautical-quality seals that offer an additional guarantee for the watertightness and reliability of your Prolite trailer. So, it needs to be said that Prolite uses wood in its construction. These days, the RV industry is moving to a variety of materials and trying to eliminate wood altogether. Wood rots; that’s a fact. Prolite is doing the best job it can to build with wood and still make this trailer last. Where this build strategy should benefit the customer is in price. Unlike aluminum, wood is cheap. Just be aware.

Of the three new models offered by Prolite, I chose to highlight the Lounge Eco. Prolite describes this model as a trailer that will set you off on your travels without breaking the bank. It’s a simplified and budget-friendly version of the popular Lounge model. Designed to offer the essentials, it lets you enjoy your getaways with ease, whether it’s for a weekend or a full week away.

This description is also a very apt RVing philosophy. If you buy this trailer, you are more concerned with the destination and the outside activities you will engage in. The trailer should be comfortable, but its size is a lesser concern because you and yours will be outside enjoying the great Canadian wilderness. However, on those stormy or rainy days, you shouldn’t feel like you are in a time-out. To that end, Prolite has covered all the basic needs very well.
