Summer has come to an end and thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic, many people may have not felt comfortable travelling during the summer. However, as the worst starts to pass you can start to think about your next holiday – and fall is a great time to do so. After all, you can marvel at the beautiful fall colours, sight-see multiple places in the same vacation, and enjoy some quality time together with your nearest and dearest.
In this post, we’ll take a look at some of the things you should consider… Just in case you’re not already convinced that RVing is a great way to enjoy fall adventures! Hopefully, it’ll help you to start planning your trip and you’ll be able to make the most of your 2020 vacation. Let’s check them out!
It’s a great time of year to RV
While most people choose the middle of July and August to go away, that can get quite crowded and uncomfortable. Especially in campgrounds and on RV sites. While that may be fine for some people, not everyone likes to be waiting in long queues in the heat. With the added curveball of social distancing, it’s probably a good idea to look at a calmer time of year.
Autumn is a great time to travel – with temperatures still being pleasant in September and October, especially in central and eastern Canada. While there are less people, there are still enough people around to make an atmosphere and not have a place feeling like a complete ghost town.
While we’re on the subject of campgrounds…
Make sure your campground of choice is still open
Due to Coronavirus, many of Canada’s campgrounds have changed their camping procedures. While many have reopened for the summer, some are operating under reduced capacity. In some provinces (such as Nova Scotia), campgrounds are only open to residents of those places. Make sure you call your campground of choice before heading out.
Be sure to check Parks Canada or Ontario Parks for anything you need related to finding a campground. Here you can do everything you need regarding your trip, including finding the perfect park for you, getting a pass/permit, and most importantly, making a reservation. You can also find out the latest Coronavirus information on this website. Remember, don’t travel if you’re showing any symptoms of the virus.
Where to find the most beautiful scenery
There are some incredible places to see fall scenery in Canada across the length and breadth of the country. You’ve seen Banff and Jasper National Parks, but just imagine driving along the Icefields Parkways as everything around you is red, yellow, and brown. They create a stunning mix with the evergreen trees up there!
While Jasper and Banff may be a jewel in Canada’s crown, there are many other picturesque places to go. The Japanese Garden in Victoria’s Butchart Gardens takes on another personality from September to October. The Cabot Trail, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia is one of Canada’s most beautiful drives. At the same time, the Bruce Peninsula and Algonquin Park in Ontario have fiery red trees flanking the calm waterways – a wonderful spot for standup paddle boarding and marveling at your surroundings! Make sure you know what’s on
As well as knowing where to go, you’ll want to know what you can still enjoy when you travel to Canada’s provinces. Events may not be the same as they were last year, and there will be social distancing in place. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy live music, delicious food on restaurant patios, and fall celebrations.
Be sure to check out what’s available on apps before you go – for example, Airbnb experiences will open you up to unusual and interesting ways to see new places with local guides. Triposo’s Canada Travel Guide can work offline and offers recommendations and maps of major cities in the country. Gas Buddy is really handy when you’re driving, as it shows you where to find your nearest gas station and even how much it costs to fill up. Very useful if you’re on a road trip.
To find out what’s on in your area, it’s also a good idea to check out each province’s official tourist board website. Full of useful info.
Don’t forget your beach equipment
Just because Autumn is cooler than summer doesn’t mean it’s not a great time to hit the beach or practice some water sports. RVers have the luxury of more space than your average car or van to carry equipment, so make sure to make the most of that extra space.
For families who want to give the fastest growing water sport in the world a go, stand up paddle boarding, why not take an inflatable SUP from Gili Sports with you? It’ll take up no space at all in your RV, even if every family member has their own board!
So, now you know how to make the most of your Autumn RV Trip…
You’ll want to start planning it out properly. Whether you want to appreciate the beautiful fall colours, enjoy some water sports (most likely with a wetsuit), or simply just chill out and enjoy a fun time with your family and/or friends, an RV is the way to do it.
