Planning an RV trip this Halloween? If so, then you may be wondering how you can keep the spooky spirit of this holiday alive even as you travel. Whether you’ll be blazing your own trail or spending much of your time at an RV campground, there are some creative ways you and your loved ones can celebrate Halloween from the comfort of your RV!
How to Celebrate Halloween in Your RV
Where do you begin? We’ve compiled a list of some RV-friendly decoration ideas, recipes, and activities that can appeal to all ages.
Halloween Decorating for RVs
Setting up Halloween decorations around your RV campground site can be a festive way to celebrate the holiday. In fact, if you’re camping around Halloween, you might be surprised at just how many of your fellow RV- and tent-campers like to go “all-out” on their campsite decorations.
The possibilities for decorating your RV for Halloween are endless. Assuming you have access to electricity at your campsite, feel free to get creative with Halloween lighting. String lights can be easily affixed to RV awnings, strung around nearby trees, and wrapped around other fixtures to make your campsite stand out. Just be careful when running lights around your campsite, as loose wires can become a tripping hazard.
If you want to keep your decor less spooky and more festive, consider setting up some friendly Halloween decorations in the form of jack-o-lanterns, hay bales, and fall floral arrangements (such as baskets of mums) around your RV. If you’re looking to get a little creepier, you might see about creating a fake graveyard using plastic tombstones or even affixing an oversized spider decoration to the side of your RV.
RV-Friendly Halloween Recipes
Your RV Halloween celebrations don’t have to stop with your campsite decorations. Why not whip up some Halloween-themed recipes and treats for you and your loved ones to enjoy?
If you’re looking for something healthy and nutritious, give these “Bell Pepper Jack-O-Lanterns” a try! This recipe involves hollowing out a bell pepper and carving a fun face into it, just as you would a Halloween pumpkin. From there, you can stuff your peppers with your favourite vegetable dip and serve them with strips of fresh-cut veggies.
Craving something a little sweeter? You can’t go wrong with a batch of “Rice Krispie Treat Brains!” This treat is easy to make in an RV, requiring you to simply mix some melted butter and marshmallows into some Rice Krispies cereal. From there, you can form the treats into brain shapes and add some red gel icing for spooky effect! The nice thing about this recipe is that you can heat your butter and marshmallows on a stovetop, in a microwave, or even over a campfire flame.
Campsite-Friendly Halloween Celebrations
So, you’ve got your RV decorations handled and your recipes planned out. What else can you do to make Halloween in your RV even more festive?
If you’ll be staying at an RV campsite, there are plenty of ideas for celebrations and activities that can be even more fun than your “typical” trick-or-treating around the subdivision.
Check to see, for example, if your campground will be holding any costume contests or similar Halloween celebrations on-site. In the weeks leading up to Halloween, this is pretty common practice at many campgrounds across the country.
Some campgrounds will also host an actual trick-or-treating event on or around Halloween. During this event, you can go campsite to campsite to collect candy just as you would at home. Most often, those in participating campsites will sit outside their tents or RVs with a bowl of goodies for trick-or-treaters (in other words, don’t go knocking on doors or tent walls!).
If you’re close with your campsite neighbours, you might even look into planning a Halloween potluck where everybody brings a dish and celebrates together. You could set up some fall- or Halloween-themed games (such as bobbing for apples) to make things even more festive.
Get Out There and Have Fun This Halloween!
Spending your Halloween on the road doesn’t have to mean missing out on celebrating this spooky holiday! As you can see, there are plenty of ways you can make this Halloween the best ever by celebrating out of your RV. Who knows? You might even want to make your Halloween RV trip a recurring tradition!
