Feeling a bit anxious about what to give your favourite RVers this holiday season? Because RVers are such a diverse group, finding that perfect gift your special RVer will remember fondly all year long can feel challenging!
Studies on gift giving show us that people place the most value on gifts that they’ve personally requested; gifts of experiences; and gifts that are practical and reflect what’s important to them (and if there’s one thing common to all RVers, it’s limited space!)
We can further fine-tune our gift-giving criteria in 2025 to choose gifts that reflect the changes we’re seeing in our environment (our climate and weather patterns) and to the extent possible, are made in Canada.
With these guidelines in mind, here are some suggestions for gifts that clearly send the message that you’ve paid attention to them…
For gifts of experiences, choose:
-
-
- Parks Canada Discovery Pass
- Explorer RV Club membership
- Terego membership
- Boondockers Welcome membership
-
For gifts that are practical and reflect what’s important to them, consider these perennial favourites:
-
-
- Yes, there’s an app for that! Your recipient can create a wish list on https://www.myregistry.com/ to enable you to choose something they’ve personally requested.
- Examples include gift cards for Amazon, VISA or MasterCard, gas stations, Canadian Tire, MEC, or Tim Horton’s, among others.
- A stationery kit with fine-tipped sharpie pens, highlighter pens, cellophane tape, stapler, postage stamps, and Post-It notes
- Rolls of loonies, toonies, and quarters for laundry (and some toll booths).
-
For gifts of time, you can offer to:
-
-
- Cut their grass and water their lawns (or purchase a lawn care package) while the RVer is traveling
- Prepare and freeze three simple meals in advance (chili, etc.) for the RVer to eat, especially in their first few days on the road
- Check their property regularly, for security
- Prepare some frozen meals for them to enjoy upon their return, so they don’t have to worry about their first few days back from their travels
-
To help them to be prepared in case of weather/fire-related emergencies, consider giving your RVer:
-
-
- A portable weather radio
- Emergency fire blankets
- Packages of N95 masks
- Water leak sensors
- Water filtration Life Straws
- An emergency first aid kit
-
For something made in Canada, check out:
-
-
- Canadian sellers on Etsy. One Edmonton-based seller, McMillan Art Studio offers delightful giclée prints perfect for decorating a wall inside an RV.
- Environmentally conscious personal products perfect for on-the-road – including soaps, deodorants, sunscreens, and facial serums packaged in recyclable cardboard; toothpastes packaged in recyclable plastic; and shampoos with refillable pouches.
-
To help keep our own spending plans in check as we holiday-shop for RVers, consider the Salvation Army Thrift Store (especially for kitchen supplies) and the discount offers that all Explorer RV Club members have with EdvantagePerks.
Holiday gifts for RVers should be practical, space-conscious, and tailored to their needs on the road. With these ideas, I’m confident you’ll delight that RV enthusiast in your life and make their adventures more memorable.
Happy holidays and safe travels to everyone!
