Trends in motorhomes are mimicking those in towables. Smaller, increasingly lightweight, and very off-road capable vans dominate this year’s What’s New list. The number of Class B off-road versions available has increased as more and more RVers pursue a much more active and adventurous RVing lifestyle.
A strange development in the sale of motorhomes has come about with the adoption of the Advanced Clean Truck Regulation by six States. In short, as of January 1, 2025, California, Oregon, Washington, Massachusetts, New York, and New Jersey will no longer allow the sale of motorhomes. The program was aimed at big diesel trucks driven around the clock, not low-mileage recreational vehicles. This new law does not ban motorhomes from these states—just the sale of them.
Some other trends to note: becoming common are central touchscreen control panels that can manage lighting, climate and more, often with smartphone integration. New models are getting Whisper Quiet air conditioners that are also more energy efficient. Tankless water heaters are also becoming more commonplace, providing a continuous hot water supply and saving space. Watch for more RVs offering a plug-in-hybrid design with a gasoline range extender providing a combined range of about 800 kilometres.
What follows is a small selection of what I found interesting about what’s new in motorhomes for the coming year. Enjoy.
